Ghana, a founding member since the 1st edition of the then All-Africa Games hosted by the Republic of Congo in 1965 in Brazzaville, has to date not hosted any of the editions of the Games.
On 19th March, 2018, the President of the Republic of Ghana, who was himself a passionate sportsman during his days as a student, directed the Ministry of Youth and Sports to bid for the right to host and organize the 13th African Games in Ghana in the year 2023.
As a result, the Ministry launched and won the bid to host and organize the 13th African Games in 2023 at the 3rd Specialized Technical Committee on Youth, Culture, and Sports (STC-YCS-3) Meeting on 25th October, 2018 in Algiers, Algeria. The Bidding team was made up of The Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah, the Deputy Minister, Perry Curtis Okudzeto, the Chief Operating Officer who was the Technical Advisor of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Dr. Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah, and Mr. Magnus Rex Danquah, Project Consultant. The Team was warmly welcomed by the Ghana Ambassador to Algeria, His Excellency Nana Kwasi Arhin.
