New Town staged a strong fighting spirit to crawl from behind to beat Maamobi on penalty shootouts in the first semi-final game of the African Games Zongo Football Competition at the Madina AstroTurf.
The regulation time ended 1-1 with Maamobi scoring first before Bernard Cofie levelled from the spot for New Town.
Desmond Abuga trapped a loose ball following a defensive mishap inside the New Town box. The intelligent forward darted a great volley that cannoned off the crossbar before sailing into the net.

New Town should have pulled themselves level minutes later but Bernard Cofie and Hakim both skied the opportunities their chances.
Five minutes after the interval New Town pulled an incident inside the Maamobi that led to a VAR review. Referee Rita Nkansah signalled for a penalty and Bernard Cofie converted the spot-kick to peck the tally.

The game went straight to penalties after the regulation time of 60 minutes ended 1-1.
Maurice Fuseini missed Maamobi’s second kick while New Town converted all their 5 kicks.
