A delegation from the Local Organising Committee for Accra 2023 has conferred with Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, H.E. Papa Owusu Ankomah.
The team of five, led by LOC chief Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, have been in Birmingham for the 2022 Commonwealth Games and took the opportunity to discuss issues on the preparation of the country to organise and host the African Olympics in August 2023.
The delegation expressed happiness about the commitment of the government led by the President of the Republic, Nana Akufo-Addo to ensure that the nation holds a successful event.
Dr. Ofosu-Asare stated that there are some challenges with the construction of the facilities but the Committee has its alternative plan to ensure that the country does not miss the golden opportunity of hosting its fifty-four brothers and sisters (countries) from Africa.
Meanwhile, he appealed to all Ghanaians living in every part of the globe to support the LOC to achieve its objectives.
On his part, the High Commissioner assured the members of the delegation that his mission would assist the LOC by sensitising the Ghanaian communities in the UK on the benefits of the Games to the country.
Furthermore, he appealed to the Committee to bring all hands and minds to assist in prosecuting its mandate.
A member of the delegation, who is also the chairman of the Marketing and Sponsorship Sub-Committee of the LOC, Geddy Laryea, expressed his appreciation to H.E. Owusu Ankomah for his reception and readiness to offer his help to the Accra 2023 project.
Present at the courtesy call included Dr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah – Chief Operating Officer of LOC, Reks Bobby – Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Ahmed Osumanu Halid – Vice Chairman of the Communications and Media Sub-Committee, and some officials of the Mission.
