Accra 2023 LOC congratulates medal winners at Commonwealth Games

Deborah Acquah won bronze in the long jump event

The 13th African Games’ Local Organising Committee has congratulated Team Ghana on its performance in the ongoing 22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The Committee specifically commends the following athletes: Abraham Mensah – silver medalist in the bantamweight division, Joseph Commey – silver medalist in the featherweight division,
Abdul Wahid Omar – bronze medalist in the lightweight division, Deborah Acquah – bronze medalist in the women’s long jump, and Joseph Paul Amoah – bronze, medalist in the men’s 200m race.

Ghana has won three boxing medals at the Commonwealth Games

Amoah becomes the first African to win a medal in the men’s 200m at the Commonwealth Games since 2006. He also becomes Ghana’s first medalist in the 200m event at the Games since 1974.

Deborah, who leaped a staggering 6.94m, becomes the first Ghanaian woman to win a Long Jump medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Furthermore, the Committee commends their technical and managerial handlers as well as the Government of Ghana and the people of our country for their support in achieving these feats.

In another development, the LOC wishes the silver medalist in the featherweight division, Joseph Commey well on his unfortunate medical condition.
