Aboakyer Invitational Tennis Tournament

24 tennis stars will compete for laurels at the African Games’ 2022 Aboakyer Invitational Tennis tournament which opens on Thursday.

The Local Organising Committee for the 13th African Games – Accra 2023 – has partnered the Ghana Tennis Federation to stage the tournament in Winneba.

Players are drawn from next-generation talents and top stars, including No.1 ranked Johnson Acquah, in the country will compete at the event.

According to the Ghana Tennis Federation, the event forms part of their preparations for the Part of preparations for the upcoming Davis Cup (Men) and Billie Jean king Cup (Ladies).

Meanwhile, the President of the federation, Isaac Aboagye Duah, believes the tournament will serve as a talent hunt for the national team ahead of the 13th Africa Games.

He told Accra2023ag.com: “The Federation is very excited for this collaboration.”

In addition, he highlighted the essence of the LOC’s support for his federation. “The sponsorship from the LOC for Accra 2023 is also very much appreciated. It will go a long way to support the development of tennis in Winneba and its environs. The best crop of tennis players will gather at the National Sports College and that is the place to be this weekend.”

The Aboakyer festival is a bushbuck hunting festival celebrated by the people of Winneba in the Central Region of Ghana.
